Light, space, and a wall of glass that bends with the shoreline.
The great room is the centre of the house — thirty feet to the ceiling, and a wall of glass that bends with the shoreline, so the lake is present from almost anywhere in it. West-facing, which means the evening light comes all the way indoors. The kitchen is built for actual cooking: a Sub-Zero refrigerator, a Wolf range and oven, and enough counter to spread out on.
The primary suite keeps its own view of the water, a five-piece bath, a walk-in closet and its own laundry. Downstairs, a lower level with a kitchenette opens straight onto the lake; upstairs, a reworked top floor adds two more bedrooms and a three-quarter bath.

The waterfront

One hundred and forty feet of shoreline, a deck and dock, moorage, and a boat rail that runs from the water straight into the garage. Three decks, a level lawn and a built-in barbecue mean most of the summer happens outside.

Room for a collection, a workshop, and the boat — which launches directly from the building. Guest and RV parking beyond it, and the house is wired for a generator.

The house sits on the west shore, with the East Lake Sammamish Trail running behind it and the whole lake at the end of the lawn. Fifteen minutes from Redmond, a little more to Bellevue — and completely quiet once you are down at the water.
